Average Pedestrian Flows per Hour

Intelligent Space Partnership provided the pedestrian movement analysis for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's planned streetscape improvements to the Notting Hill Gate area of central London. Working as an integral part of the design team led by Project Centre Limited (PCL), Intelligent Space Partnership undertook an analysis of pedestrian movement in the study area. The study comprised the following:

• Analysis of pedestrian flows in the area provided evidence on the patterns of movement and footway crowding.
• The current functioning of crossing facilities for pedestrians was assessed using analysis of formal and 'informal' road crossing activity by pedestrians.
• The route choices taken by pedestrians leaving station exits within the study area was identified using a path following survey from the entrances to Notting Hill Gate tube station and nearby bus stops.

The analysis is being used to inform the design of streetscape improvements in the area.
