Traffic severance on the A1 often results in pedestrians crossing dangerously

ISP undertook a scoping study of pedestrian movement issues along a key section of the A1 corridor through Islington. This was done as part of the Alsop team in order to inform the development of the council's pedestrian movement strategy. Particular issues covered by the study include:

• Tackling the problems pedestrians face when using this section of the A1.
• The issue of severance created by the main road, how this affects the local communities and what might be done about it.
• Suggested strategies for observing pedestrian use to identify how the street is being used and in particular how well crossing locations are working.
• Suggested strategies for modelling the potential improvement to pedestrian movement 'desire lines' from different schemes including how these can be used to test design ideas at a later stage.
