Intelligent Space Partnership undertook a pedestrian movement analysis of Streatham High Road in 2003 to underpin the Atkins 'Drive Through to Destination' Masterplan. Stage 1 of works involved pedestrian improvements such as removal of barriers, removal of street clutter and footway widening. Intelligent Space undertook a pedestrian movement follow up study undertaken after the completion phase 1 to identify the effect that the initial changes have had on pedestrian movement and severance within this area.

Monitoring was undertaken to assess the extent to which pedestrian behaviour has changed now that barriers have been removed and to see whether significantly more dangerous behaviour is now being undertaken by pedestrians on the High Road. Initial findings of the monitoring show no increase in more dangerous patterns of crossing despite the removal of barriers. The monitoring of this project will continue to identify the ongoing impact of changes.
