| 25 June 2003 | Intelligent Space develops London Pedestrian Model |
|
|
Intelligent Space Partnership is developing a predictive model of pedestrian flows for the whole of the Congestion Charging Zone in central London. This is the first pedestrian flow model to be developed at this urban scale. In future, the model can be used as a transport planning and evaluation tool, enabling walking to be analysed as a transport mode for regional transport planning purposes. ISP's model has arisen from work providing modelling data to Transport for London, as part of TfL's own research programme investigating methods of tracking progress against walking objectives. The research behind this model is outlined in the following white paper: "Pedestrian Demand Modelling of Large Cities: an applied example from London" by Jake Desyllas, Elspeth Duxbury, John Ward (all from Intelligent Space Partnership) and Andrew Smith (from Transport for London). |
