Our pedestrian movement strategies are used by owners and developers to deliver public spaces and complex buildings that will work better for the people that use them. This is achieved by highlighting key functional risks in advance of a development and providing a targeted plan to tackle them. The aims of pedestrian strategies are:

  • increasing local connections between a site and its surrounding area, particularly by reducing the severance of large roads with targeted crossings
  • improving integration between different transport modes using strategic pedestrian links
  • reducing the cost overhead of space management with strategies to encourage informal guardianship of public spaces
  • identifying strategies to enhance the economic viability of a site by generating foot traffic for local businesses

Our approach is to use state of the art, evidence based techniques such as observation studies and computer modelling. Internationally recognised best practice guidance on walking provision is used in our strategies for issues such as as footway capacities, waiting times and crossing provisions.
